Joan was a retired social worker with the Wallace Center in Decatur, Alabama, attended St. Albert the Great School, O.J. Stivers School, and graduated from Westport High School and the University of Kentucky.
Survivors include her mother, Winifred W. Harris; sisters, Jane Melillo (Joe), and Julia McDonald; nieces Vanessa Yenawine and Alice Yenawine (Louis MacDonald) and her beloved cats.
A memorial mass to celebrate her life will be held on 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church at 1395 Girard Drive. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 1:00-8:00 P.M. at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home on Westport Road. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and/or the Shamrock Pet Foundation.
