John was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, A member of the Duval Masonic Lodge #6, a charter member and past board member of Southeast Christian Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter; Kathy Garrett Roberts, and his siblings; Charles, Sara Davis and Nancy.
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; Cordelia McGee, children; Don Garrett (Candy), Mitch Garrett (Linda), Darlene Holsclaw (Pete), Jeffrey McGee (Linda). Brother Jesse Earl McGee and sisters; Mary Jane Lange and Patsy Kaercher. Grandchildren: Clay, Allen, James, John, Julie, Nash, Josh and 12 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 10 am Friday, March 30, 2012 in the Chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Entombment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held 2-8 pm Thursday March 29, 2012
