John Nels Schaefer, 44 of Lebanon Junction, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026. He was born on August 6, 1982, to Michael and Sandra Schaefer. John was an avid fisherman and deer and turkey hunter. He was a big Indianapolis Colts fan and loved attending their games. In his recent years, John developed a deep religious faith.
John is preceded in death by his brother: Jesse Evan Schaefer.
Left to cherish his memory are his son: John Paul VanFleet Schaefer; his dad: Michael Schaefer (Evelyn Lambert); his mom: Sandra Schaefer; his uncles: Troy Lambert (Kris Landherr) and Thomas Schaefer (Debra Wright); his aunt: Carolyn Kopp; and his niece: Jazmyn Schaefer.
A service to honor John will be 2 PM Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Arch L Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218 with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-2 PM at the funeral home.
