

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jo Schneider; four children, Dawn Stemle (Tony), Wendy Ridenour, Mark Schneider, and Dr. John Matthew Schneider (Katie); ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna (Westerman) Schneider; his sister, Mary Guenther; and his daughter, Laura Schneider.
John was born on September 4, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Southern High School and UofL Speed Scientific School with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked as a Project Engineer at Carrier Vibrating Equipment Co. in Louisville, Kentucky where he retired in 1993 as a part owner.
John was a beloved father, husband, friend, and mentor to all who knew him. An accomplished woodworker, photographer and rare mineral collector, he traveled to dozens of countries across 5 continents. From the tip of South America to the Arctic Circle, John made new friends wherever he went.
Visitation will take place this Sunday, January 11 from 2-6pm at the home of Matthew and Katie Schneider.
A Memorial Service for John will take place at Bernheim Forest and Arboretum in Clermont, Kentucky on Sunday, March 1st at 10am (due to restrictions, only immediate family are requested to attend), with a Celebration of John’s life and art to follow at his home in Louisville, Kentucky at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations to be made in John’s memory to Bernheim Forest and Arboretum and Hosparus Health of Louisville.
