John Roger Slusher (70), born on July 23, 1954, passed away in his Louisville home, on June 19, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend. He was born in Champaign, Illinois, and moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1967, when his father took a position at the Courier Journal Newspaper. John made many friends. He attended Portland Christian Academy, and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, with a bachelor's degree in recreation therapy in 1978. He spent many years working with people with disabilities, both at camp KYSOC of Kentucky, and Hazelwood Center, where he retired in 2005 after 27 years of service. His family and friends share memories of his love of camping and nature, playing guitar and making music, and his kindness and sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Joyce (Reynolds) Slusher.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Jean (Knabel) Slusher; daughter, Laurann Slusher; step-daughters, Angela Phillips and Rachel Buccieri (Dylan); six grandchildren, Trevon Warren, Sierra Deats, Taleb Warren, Trenton Slusher, Caroline Buccieri, and Zachary Buccieri; and two great grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters, Nancy Wilson (John) and Kim Wilson (Marty), and brother Jim Slusher (Lisa). Also many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for John will be Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 4PM to 8PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218. A funeral service will the following day on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 10AM in the funeral homes chapel. John will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park.
