Joseph Warren Ashton Jr., 82, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on August 19, 2026. Joseph lived a life marked by steady devotion, hard work, and a selfless care for those around him. Qualities that made him deeply cherished by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joseph was a member of Lynne Acres Church and a two tour Vietnam veteran. His life reflected a quiet strength and constancy, shaped by the people and places that formed him early on and sustained him through the years.
As Jo Shipley shared, “Joseph and I were very young when our dads went to serve in WWII. We went to live at mamaw Ashtons house. Mamaw became ‘mama’, we would have never been the happy loved adults we are today without her. We played together everyday, dug huge mud holes. She taught us to play, pray, and taught us how to love each other and others, she even made our clothes. He will always have a precious part of my life.” Joseph found joy in simple, lasting pleasures—fishing, country music, and John Wayne movies. Above all, he loved his grandchildren, who knew him best by the name PopPop.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 15 years, Sharon Annette Ashton; his beloved second wife, Carol Jean Ashton; his parents, Joseph Warren Ashton Sr. and Dorothy Hornburger; his grandmother/mother, Jessie May Ashton; his siblings, Tommy Ashton, Ronnie Ashton, Becky Ashton, Patty Hornburger; and his best friend/brother David.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Joseph Dewayne Ashton, Alisha Berding, and Joseph Anthony Ashton, as well as many other beloved family members and friends.
