

Joseph Goodwin Jr., was born on May 20, 1938, and transitioned from this life on May 30, 2026.
He was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky by his parents, the late Joseph Goodwin Sr. and Evelyn Fitzpatrick Goodwin.
Joseph, compassionately known as “Goochie,” was the first black student, and a graduate of, Fern Creek High School. In his field of careers, he was among the first group of black Jefferson County Deputy Sheriffs. From there, he became an entrepreneur and was the CEO of Joseph Goodwin Jr. and Sons Landscaping that expanded beyond 30 years. Having a passion, and natural talent for cooking, he was regularly sought out, and catered for numerous clients.
Joseph received Christ Jesus as the head of his life while in his youth. He was a charter member of Spirit Anew Ministries for more than 30 years, and used his culinary skills as the appointed lead over the Kitchen Ministry, overseeing all food preparations and kitchen staff for multiple events.
Always the “social butterfly,” he had a conversation for everyone he met. He had such a love for knowledge, and could carry a conversation on about any given subject.
Joseph was a cherished Son, Father, Grandfather… and man of God. He was also the beloved Husband of Pauline Martin Goodwin, celebrating their anniversary on April 2, leading up to 68 years of marriage.
He was Dad, Pop’s, to eight children, two of whom preceded him in death: Yolanda Diane Griffin, and Rev. Angela Renee Goodwin.
His surviving children; Rev. Gregory S. Goodwin, Rodney B. Goodwin, Joseph B. Goodwin, Tracy M. Goodwin, Tammy Hough Goodwin, and Wendy R. Goodwin. God’s additional blessings to him is his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.
Joseph also had an amazing childhood with amazing siblings. He was preceded in death by Gary Goodwin, Marnell Goodwin, Edwin Goodwin, Sr., Clara Jean Goodwin, and Gail Goodwin Posey; His surviving siblings; Donald Goodwin Sr. (Sharelle), Naomi Hannon, Cecil Goodwin (Vanessa), Joan Dorsey, and Dana Ross (David); and an host of beloved nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218, on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
A Funeral will take place on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
