He was born March 2, 1934 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Dale W. Johnston and Mary Baines Dettlinger.
Joseph worked as a Printer with Finn Industries for many years. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He was a coach in the J-town little league from 1964 to 1978, and active in the J-town Youth Football as a coach, treasurer and board member from 1965 to 2008.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Elisabeth A. "Elli" Johnston; six children, Luella "Lou" Browning (Dennis), Margaret "Margie" Wells, Dorothy "Dottie" Dozier, Heidi Willhoite (Russ), Joseph D. "Joe" Johnston (Nita), and William R. "Rogge" Johnston (Vickie); ten grandchildren, Cheryl, Andria, Shawn, Anna, Kathleen, Mikel Dee, Hunter, Quinn, Peyton and Nathan; six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Friday, June 1, 2012 in the Chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3 - 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
