

Joseph "Jay" John Rollins, a beloved and adventurous individual, passed away on January 20, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on March 27, 1967, Jay was known for his brave, generous, and selfless nature. He was a devoted and hard-working man who inspired many with his patience and dedication. Jay's early life was marked by his pursuit of excellence in education, earning a master's degree. One memorable moment was when he took his son Blake on a thrilling ride in his white convertible supercharged Corvette. Blake peeked over and it read 125 MPH, Jay said "please do not tell your mom". He also proudly raced his Corvette at the drag strip.
In his career, Jay served as a journalist in the Navy, stationed in Japan, where he developed a deep connection with the country. He made news reports for the Navy. After his military service, he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into owning an IT business, demonstrating his diverse talents and work ethic.
Family was at the heart of Jay's life. He was a devoted father to his children, Blair, Blake, and Nate whom he loved and cherished deeply. His family was a source of immense pride and joy. Jay had a dream of returning to Japan to start his own small batch bourbon distillery, a testament to his adventurous spirit and passion for new endeavors.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Dianne Smith Rollins; his son, Nate Rollins; brother, Jack smith; uncle, Bob Smith; and his best friend, Buddy Rollins, his golden Lab.
Jay leaves behind his father, Joseph "Gumpy" Rollins; his two children, Blair Rollins and Blake Rollins; two brothers, Greg Rollins (Kerry) and Shawn Rollins (Lena); and two sisters, Allison Loftin (Stephen) and Melissa Jordan. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished and loved to spend time with.
Visitation will be held on January 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home, located at 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. A funeral service will follow at the same location, beginning at 2:00 pm.
Jay will be remembered for his inspirational life and the indelible mark he left on those who knew him.
