

Karen Short, 87, of Louisville passed away on September 10, 2022. She was born in Louisville on November 14, 1934 to the late George Francis and Freda Emma Holthouser. Karen attended Valley High School. She retired from Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) as a bookkeeper after over 30 years of service. She attended 9th and O Baptist Church and the Independent Church of God, Lexington.
In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Carl Vernon Short, Sr.; her siblings, Corinna Walker, George F. Holthouser, Jr., Doris “Dot” Hutchison, Frederick Paul “Freddy” Holthouser, Lillie R. Byrd, and John F. “Johnny” Holthouser; and two sons-in-law, James “Jimmy” Hyde and Ronald “Ronny” Black.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Brenda L. Black of Santa Claus, IN, Tonya K. Anderson of Louisville, and Verna D. Short of Louisville; a son, C. Vernon Short, Jr. (Marie) of Louisville; 9 grandchildren, Bryan Black (Erin), Aaron Black (Megan), Craig Black (Kendra), Alexius Gallagher (Shawn), Holli Anderson, Stacy Anderson, Angela Steinbock (Mike), Terri Short (Geoff) and James Short; 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Shirley Short and a longtime friend, Jean Calloway.
The family welcomes guests for visitation from 3:00-7:00pm on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Arch L. Heady at Westport Village (7410 Westport Road). A service to celebrate Karen’s life will take place at the funeral home at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 17, 2022 with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Karen’s honor to Louisville Kosair Charities, Special Olympics or the Home of the Innocents.
