

Kary Alyne Allen Hay, 94, passed away at Kindred Transitional Health, Corydon, IN on February 28, 2015. The daughter of Carrye Vaden Chandler Bagby and George Everett Allen, she was born on September 15, 1920 in Dawson Springs, KY. Aside from a few years during her youth, she spent most of her life in Louisville. A graduate of Dawson Springs High School and Bryant Stratton Business School, she worked as a secretary until shortly after her marriage to Pirtle Hay, whom she met while both were employed at Goodwill Industries.
A victim of polio from age 5, she bore her handicap with dignity, most proud of capably rearing and educating her three children. She was extremely intelligent, competent and artistic. She took pride in her beautiful penmanship. She excelled at needlework, sewing, and cooking. Until her vision failed, she read a book at least weekly, worked crossword puzzles, and meticulously kept her personal records. She had a lovely singing voice and enjoyed listening to music. Remarkably she nurtured and maintained long distance girlhood friendships. She delighted in the companionship of cats. Her faith and church affiliation sustained her.
Prior to moving to Kindred last year, she had resided for several years at Cedar Court Assisted Living in Corydon so she could be near her daughter, Joan.
She was preceded in death by Pirtle Hay, her husband of over 50 years; her parents; her beloved step-father, Eulus Bagby; and her brother, James Everett Allen.
She is survived by her son, H. Wayne Hay (Susie) and daughter, Judie Hay Meador (John M., Jr.), both of Birmingham, AL and daughter, Joan Hay Burton (Dr. Bruce, MD) of Corydon, IN; five grandchildren, H. Wayne Hay, Jr. (Carla) of Melbourne, Australia; Shannon Hay Anderson (Andy) and Maggie Hay Edwards (Mitch) both of Birmingham; Elise Meador, Washington, DC; and John M. Meador, III, Doral, FL; five great grandchildren, Drew and Hayley Anderson, Nate and Skylar Hay and Will Edwards; sister-in-law, Wanda Allen, Severna Park, MD; several cousins, nieces and nephews, among them special nieces and phone buddies, Faye and Anna Lee Fentress and Peggy Duvall. She leaves behind lifelong friends, Christine Hamby and Mary Jane Albert.
A celebration of her life will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home Dignity Chapel, 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, on March 14, 2015 at 3 PM. Visitation will be March 14,, 2015 from 1pm-3pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
