Kenneth A. Lage, 77 passed away on November 7, 2024, due to a year long battle with health issues. Recent complications arose causing great pain. Now he is at peace. Ken was born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois on May 25, 1947, to his loving parents, Aida Coyle Lage and Robert F. Lage, both deceased. Ken attended St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn, ILL until the fifth grade, when his large family of 13 moved to Louisville due to his father’s job in printing. They settled into a large home in St. Matthews. He then attended Our Lady of Lourdes grade school, following with graduating from Trinity High School (class of 1965). Not long after graduation, he went off to serve our Country with the Third Army during the Vietnam War. He was proud of the fact that he won an award as a sharpshooter. Ken trained as a medic and spoke of that quite often. However, there was divine intervention as he had orders to go to Vietnam twice, and both times those orders were cancelled! God had a plan for him. Not long after his return he met his soon-to-be wife, Nancy Russell on November 2, 1968 as a blind date, engaged on February 2, 1969 and married on June, 1969. The following year they brought home their first born child, John Robert Lage, naming him after both grandfathers….. JB as he got older. Two years later another son was born, Brian Russell Lage. Ken loved coaching his boys in baseball, teaching them how to fish and encouraged them in the game of golf. He had the deepest love for his children and grandchildren.
Ken’s career took off when he returned from the Service, following in his father’s footsteps, in the printing business. A total of 55+ years, starting with Gibbs-Inman, then his own businesses Louisville Printing House and Prism Proofing, Hamilton Printing and retiring from Clark and Riggs in 2021. He was well known in the printing business as “knowing his stuff”, as he started in the pressroom and ended up in Sales for many years. He made many new friends in the business and had mutual respect for them as well.
Later in life, Ken loved to travel, especially every winter to Marco Island, FL for sun and fishing that was enjoyed by both he and his wife. He also enjoyed working on his rental homes, gardening, watching military movies, listening to music and maintaining his lawn to perfection.
Ken is survived by his wife, Nancy Russell Lage, his son, Brian Lage (Lisa Gibbs), daughter in law, Jennifer Huber Lage, grandson John R. Lage, Jr., grandson, Darren R. Lage (Stephanie Chagoya) granddaughter, Danielle Gibbs Mangum (David) and three great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Kingston Kleber and Violet Mangum. His surviving brothers and sisters include Mary Grizzle (Glenn), Karin Lage, James F. Lage (Nina), Anita Reh (Robert), William M. Lage (Karen) and Mark H. Lage (Renee). Sister-in-laws Lyn Briggs Lage, Jenny Ward Lage. He is survived by one brother-in-law, John M. Russell Jr. (Lynne).
We cherish the memories of those who have gone before him. Each and every loss was an extreme heartbreak, starting with his oldest son, John Robert Lage, Jr. His siblings, Robert A. Lage, Walter J. Lage, Mathew L. Lage, Lydia Woodring Hunter, sister-in-law, Alice Russell Gadler (Bjorn Gadler), and nephew, Steven Russell.
There are many, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in this very large family, too many to mention, but know he was proud of and loved them all.
The family would like to thank the Baptist Health Oncology and Hematology group, who cared for him over the past years, as well as the staff at Baptist Health with their caring attitudes
