Kristen Elizabeth Prentiss, 45, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on September 9, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 7, 1981, Kristen grew up in Michigan, then moved to Georgia with her father before spending the rest of her life in her home of Louisville, Kentucky, with her partner, Ben Voges, and dogs Max, Kelvin, Alex, and Kepler.
Kristen lived her life with a passion for learning, always curious about the world around her, constantly asking questions and engaging in passionate discussions. If she didn’t know the answer, she would make it her mission to find it. She wanted to know the how, the why, and the science behind it. Ask her about anything, and she’d love to enlighten you.
Kristen spent most of her young adult life as a phenomenal hairdresser, bringing her incredible knowledge to make everyone in her chair feel beautiful. Fueled by her lifelong love of education, she returned to school and graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2017. Following graduation, Kristen worked as a genomics specialist at Eurofins Genomics Laboratory for many years. She decided to share her brilliant mind by tutoring children in math and science and substitute teaching at several schools, spending the majority of her time at Louisville Male High School.
Kristen loved dancing and singing with her friends at festivals, concerts, in the living room, or anywhere music was playing. She was best known for twirling her hair and standing in her signature “Kristen pose”. She also enjoyed outdoor adventures with her dogs, spending time training them, and making sure they lived their best lives.
Even in the midst of her difficult battle with cancer, Kristen’s famous sense of humor, strength, and unapologetically authentic self never wavered. She will forever be remembered for her contagious laugh, infectious smile, notable hugs, incredible resilience, and her endless love. We will miss her so much.
She is survived by partner, Ben Voges; mother, Laurie Prentiss; father, Robert Prentiss; sisters, Kara Vusich and Jennifer Vusich.
A Celebration of Life will be 12pm Saturday, September, 19, 2026 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd Louisville, Kentucky. A reception will follow immediately after at 1:00 PM.
