

Larry E. Grant, 83, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on February 16, 2026. A lifelong Louisvillian, Larry devoted his career to public service, community safety, and the advancement of professional standards in law enforcement.
Born in 1942 in Louisville, Larry graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science in Police Administration. As a lifelong learner, he also sought numerous educational opportunities to further his understanding of leadership, innovation, and service, including the Southern Police Institute, National Crime Prevention Institute, and the United States Secret Service.
Larry served for more than two decades with the Jefferson County Police Department, rising to the rank of captain and earning the respect of colleagues and the community alike. Throughout his tenure, he distinguished himself through his commitment to integrity, professionalism, and forward-thinking approaches to policing. In recognition of his early-career accomplishments and civic contributions, he was named the Outstanding Young Man of Kentucky in 1974, an honor that recognizes exemplary leadership and service within the Commonwealth.
A pioneer in collaborative crime prevention, Larry founded the Louisville Crime Stoppers Program, establishing a vital partnership between law enforcement, local media, and the public. Under his leadership, the program empowered citizens to anonymously provide information that led to arrests and strengthened community engagement in public safety. His work helped shape a model of cooperation that continues to influence crime prevention efforts.
Larry also became a familiar and trusted voice in the community as the traffic reporter for WHAS Radio from 1982 to 1988, delivering daily reports that connected him with thousands of Louisville residents. Expanding his impact in media and public education, he created and narrated a documentary for WHAS-TV titled Shield of Honor, which highlighted the principles and importance of community-oriented policing and the human side of law enforcement.
After retiring from the police force, Larry founded LG Consulting & Training, Inc., where he led high-performance team development seminars for businesses across the United States.
In 1995, Larry’s leadership expertise earned national recognition when he was selected as an instructor for the Leadership Excellence Program under then-Director James Lee Witt at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In that role, he helped train and mentor leaders in emergency management and public service, extending his influence well beyond Kentucky.
Throughout his life, Larry remained steadfast in his belief that effective law enforcement depends on trust, communication, and ethical, effective leadership. His career reflected a rare ability to bridge institutions—law enforcement, media, and emergency management—while maintaining a deep commitment to the people he served.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Breaden Grant; his daughter, Yvonne Grant Levine; and his granddaughter, Rachael Levine. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose legacy of service and integrity will endure in both his family and the community he loved.
A visitation will be held from 2PM - 4PM on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218. a Celebration of Larry's life will take place immediately following the visitation at 4PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
