Lavern Gowin Brady, 78, died at home on June 6, 2013. Devoted daughter, lover, mother, and doting grandmother, sister and aunt. In the purest and most loving sense, she was learner, teacher, encourager, artist, friend. The many friends she left behind in her home town of LaGrange, in Bristol, Radford, Madisonville, Fulton, New Castle, and Louisville testify to her caring nature.
Whatever she did: teacher, cheerleader sponsor, school or church secretary, administrative assistant, or church member, got her best.
Valedictorian of her high school class at LaGrange High School, Lavern graduated from Murray State College. She taught Social Studies at Oldham County High School, was the school secretary at Madisonville-North Hopkins High school, and a church secretary. She grew to love her adopted state of Virginia during 9 years in Bristol and Radford.
First-born of the late Virgil and Alberta Rankin Gowin of Lagrange on December 19, 1934, she is survived by H. B., husband of 57 years, son Kristopher, his partner Gregory Rahming, grandson A. J., brother Tom Gowin(Lucy), sisters Patricia Moore and Ruby Coomes (Ken), several nieces and nephews, and great-nephews and -nieces.
