Leann was a true community advocate from the beginning of her career. She worked for Russ Gailor Realtors for 16 years. Mr. Gailor described her as a top notch employee therefore he recommended her for her first job within city government. She worked her way up from housing inspector to become Assistant Director of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Soon afterwards, the Mayor (Harvey Sloan) and the County Judge promoted her as the first woman to hold the position of chief housing inspector. Leann was in charge of expanding Standiford Field and the runways for UPS. She created a Bill that was passed in Frankfort to aide in the HUD efforts to relocate 3,740 families. At that time it was the largest relocation program ever carried out in the United States. Leann was also the 40th legislative district for the democratic executive committee for 14 years, where she was responsible for 28 precincts. Tony Miller (circuit court clerk) and Sean Delahanty requested Leann to be the vice chairman of the Louisville Jefferson County Democratic Party where she served 2 1/2 years. After Leann retired she opened her own mortgage brokerage business called GSM, where she helped individuals purchase a home. Leann was a member of the Derby City Bop association where she was president for one year. She enjoyed dancing to jitter bug, rat race, and the cha-cha. She also was a member of the Moose Lodge #5 where she spent many nights enjoying karaoke. The family would like to thank Jacqueline Bates for her loyal friendship to Leann.

Mom, there are no words that can truly describe you and who you were. You’re the best mother a son could want. You’re love was unconditional and your determination was unwavering for your family. I’m sure the good lord has a spot for you on his management team. A mother’s work is never done. I love you. You’re son Michael.
