Lena Sue Scott, age 78, passed away on April 8, 2026. She was born on October 7, 1947, in Rockingham, North Carolina, and lived a life marked by profound love and selflessness that touched everyone who knew her. Lena was the daughter of the late Claude Gause and Dorothy Gause. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Charles Scott, and her cherished daughter, Christine Poths-Griffin. Their memories remained very close to her heart throughout the remainder of her life, and she carried their love with her always.
She is survived by her sons, Jeremy Scott and his wife Tiffany, and Jason Scott and his wife Marissa. Lena was a proud and doting grandmother to Reilly Scott, Jaxson Scott, and Bobby Griffin, who brought her endless joy and affection.
After losing her daughter Christine prematurely to tragedy, Lena raised her grandson Bobby for twelve years and became his mother figure and is primarily responsible for guiding him into the fine young man that he is today. For years she encouraged her grandson Bobby's passion for music, and consequently he nears graduation from college in Spring 2027 with a music education degree, so that he can take music and help heal others too. Lena and his mother Christine would be so very proud. Lena never missed any of her grandson's performances when she was physically able to attend.
Her grandchildren knew her affectionately and tenderly as Grammy, a name she wore with tremendous pride. She treasured every moment spent with them and was delighted in being an important and irreplaceable part of their lives. Lena was known for her loving nature and her kindness and perhaps most, her willingness to sacrifice for herself so that others in her family could have more. It was a profound lesson that others learned from her. Lena always gave and gave, with a full heart and soul, until the very end.
She enjoyed cooking for everyone, especially her family, and she found great happiness in preparing meals that brought people closer and together. Lena took great pride and joy in the happiness she brought others in the delicious meals she often prepared for them, even when her hands and feet hurt and she was tired. Lena also loved to shop and had a special appreciation for movies and music of every kind, even the films and genres and bands she might not have chosen herself, but simply because her grandchildren loved them, and she found tremendous joy in making them happy and seeing them smile.
Throughout her life, Lena made homes in many places: North Carolina, Illinois, Indiana, Florida, and Kentucky, and each place became part of her story, but it was the people she loved who truly made each house a home. Those who knew Lena will remember her as a woman who was full of love. Her family was the center and beating heart of her entire world, and she found her greatest happiness in caring for them. Lena taught her family to be loving, accepting, kind, forgiving, generous, selfless, patient, and warm. Lena taught her family to love others for who they are, and not to judge them based on the color of their skin or their sexual orientation or their religious beliefs, but to love their fellow human because we are all far more alike than different.
Lena Sue Scott will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so dearly, in the memories she created, and in the many lives she touched. Her family's love for her is boundless.
