The fondest memory I recall I was in my early teens I took a summer trip to Kentucky to visit relatives for a couple of weeks with Lenard and my grandfather. I always referred to Lenard as "Tooty" a nickname he got from who knows where, anyway that is what I called him from as early as I can remember. Although he was 9 years my senior we always got along well, with the exception when I was younger and there was the time I got into his penny collection but that's another story. I think this was primarily because he treated me no different than anyone else (he didn't baby me, I imagine I learned a few good swear words over the years from him as well:) The trip was really my first partially untethered experience, a journey from a teen into a young man if you will, away from the confines of my normal life. It was a long trip and we spent many hours on the road in which we engaged in conversation that covered a wide range of topics, not many of which can remember today but I do remember that feeling of being 3 men traveling and enjoying each other's company not only as relatives but also as friends. We spent our days visiting with relatives with no particular goals or deadlines and we just did whatever suited, mostly just sitting around talking at Uncle Ardell's.  Tooty always liked to read the local newspaper and he and I would go out each day together to pick one up. As simple as it sounds it was an enjoyable time and I'm glad to have lived it. Over the years we have been separated by distance and time but each opportunity our paths cross we pick up right where we left off, never any awkwardness, it was as if we had just talked the previous week. I will miss him.
