

Leonard Francis Barton passed away June 8, 2012 in Corydon, Indiana. Mr. Barton was born in Peoria, Illinois to Eva & Leonard Barton on May 4, 1919. Leonard graduated Magna Cum Lade from Notre Dame in 1940.
He served in World War II in the United States Navy reaching the rank of Lt. Commander and is a survivor of the Pearl Harbor Attack aboard the USS New Orleans.
In 1943 he Married Marilyn Jean Straus who preceded him in death in 2010.
He was a very successful salesman for Addressograph-Multigraph for 20 years, followed by a 25 year career with American Express Company, retiring at age 73.
He was a Kentucky Colonel, member of Melbourne Heights Baptist Church and a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of Kentucky.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Barton (Larry Osborne) who he lived with in Corydon, Indiana and Sharon Hewitt (David) of Goddard Kansas; two grandsons, Greg Fickler (Liz Snyder-Fickler) of Cary, North Carolina and Steven Fickler of Louisville, Kentucky; and two great grandchildren, Jackson Fickler and Alexandra (Lexie) Fickler of Cary, North Carolina.
Cremation was chosen. A celebration of his life will be conducted Thursday at Noon at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road with private entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
