Rita,

I am so stunned to just now learn of his passing.  The last few years,  we still called each other at least twice a year especially on our birthday.  This year, he did not respond to my phone message and I am not sure how long ago we last emailed each other.   I have been meaning to contact him the last few months and finally got around to it today and noticed his phone was disconnected.  I simply googled his name and got his obituary.

I have read everybody else's comments and I share their admiration of Len.  Simply put, I thought of him as my best friend from the VA and one of my three best friends in life.

I am just so shocked.  I know you know that we had a special relationship during the past 27 years ever since we first met when I was the VR&C Officer briefly in Louisville.  I loved him so much for his gentle humor and room filling laughter.  Simply one of the true gentlemen of the world and all around good guy.  I am sad for you.  

Most of our relationship was over the phone and we would continue a previous conversation 6 months later for another two hours.  I am so glad that he visited us in Savannah two years ago.  Kate and I had a great time visiting with him.

It is obvious that Len touched a lot of lives.  What a sweet tender spirit.

Dear Rita, I could not beleive it when I heard Leonard had passed! We have never met, but Leonard and I have been friend's over our VA career's.I knew him at the Louisville RO, later when I was working at VACO in Washington DC. we would always make time to visit or catch lunch when he was visiting or just visit in my office. His stories and advice were always funny and up beat. He was a great guy and a very unique individual, he is missed already !

Len was a good guy, a great colleague, and a "character".  My sincere condolences.

Dear Rita: I am so sorry for your loss and the loss to our nation's veterans.  I will always consider Len as a true friend.  I had the privilege of working with Len on numerous VA projects, teams, and work groups.  We also worked together as we fought our way through the whole HoA debacle.  During that period I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Len in Washington DC, and here in Phoenix.  We also shared a passion for golf. Hi Rita- I am so sorry for your loss.  Leonard was a true friend and confidant through all my years with the VR&E program.  I recall fondly the time I visited you and Len for a round of golf, and the other rounds that Leonard and I played over the years-the best of times.  His sense of humor and jokes were a true source laughter and at times, genuine inspiration.  He was a true advocate for veterans and people with disabilities.  My thoughts are with you and your family.

I'm very saddened by Len's passing. I first met him four years ago, when he visited my Cheshire program in New Jersey. It wasn't long before I came to know him as a very giving, caring man, one who always had a story at the ready, and a laugh to share. He extended a friendly hand to those he worked with, and a deep commitment to the many people with disabilities that he served. I'm so very glad to have known him, and I will miss him.

Dearest Rita,

I am so, so sorry for your loss.  I work with Cheshire in London, Ontario and travelled on several occassions with Len.  I always felt protected when he and John were with me down those dark allies in Thailand... he sometimes sent me shopping ...but his favorite gift and a great story was "the ring" for Rita!!... our trips will not be the same - he will be missed and he was so committed to helping people with disabilities.

Len was a good friend and mentor when I was with VR&E in Cincinnati and also later when I became a new VR&E Officer in Cleveland.  We had baseball and the Air Force in common.  Beyond the support and friendship, Len always entertained me with the best jokes and stories.  I don't know where he came up with them, but if he had not been such an advocate for disabled vets and others with disabilities, he would have made a great stand-up comedian or professional story teller.  I know all of his VR&E friends will miss him.

I knew Len for at least 25 years and I will always remember Len's engagning demeanor, he always had a Joke or interesting (usually humorous) story.  There were no strangers in Len's life and many people benefited from knowing him.  Most importantly, Len was commited to his work and to life!  He spent his VA career helping veterans and he touched many, 

I remember him telling me a story about how he was mistaken for Dr. Phil and we had a very good laugh about that.  He tried to brighten people's lives.

I remember many things about Len but what made the greatest impression on me was his williness to reach out and extend himself to help others,

I will certainly miss my Uncle Leonard. He was a part of my life from the beginning, from time at Disney World as a child to holidays in Maryland and Kentucky to introducing him to my future wife so many years ago to business trips not so very long ago.  I will always remember Christmas in Tennessee and the great times we had with Leonard. It would be hard to imagine having had a better Uncle.

I was a friend of Leonard's at Western. I thought a lot of him. We were roommates as well as teammates on WKU Baseball team. We kept in touch over the years with a couple of golf games with mutual friends. He will truly be missed, especially his funny stories and tales of adventures. God bless.

It really hits you when you see the wonderful pictures you assembled as a loving tribute to Leonard and realize the man that was so much fun to be around, and just always left you feeling happy has left us for his eternal home.  We are saddened for you and your loss as we know it is very difficult to give someone up when you were not expecting it.  We hold you very close to our hearts at this time, praying that God's comforting hand and presence are being felt by you as many testify to all the goodness he shared in his earthly life here. I worked with Len through the vocational rehab program at the State vo-tech school in Bowling Green where I was the Counselor and later at Ft Knox. He was always a caring person for everyone but especially the Vet Rehab program. He helped many, many veterans in his job. I was very surprised by his death. Our prayers are with you.
