Leroy Davis was born in Horse Branch, Ky and lived his life in Louisville, Ky, Cub Run, Ky and Sarasota, Fl. A man who lived his life on his own terms. He passed away June 11, 2026, in Louisville, Ky, surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old.
Leroy built a life around family, hard work, and the things he loved. He spent 32 years at General Electric, where he gave the Kind of steady, dependable service that just isn't common anymore. While working at GE he also operated a silk screening business in his home with help from his wife and children. He was a photographer for weddings and YMCA sports. Leroy enjoyed attending his kids sports functions, playing the Guitar, playing pool, and vacationing with his wife and children.
After he retired from GE he worked at the YMCA of Greater Louisville for 3 years followed by teaching himself to build a cabin on Nolin Lake for his wife and himself to live in during their retirement years. He was a driver for Amish living in Cub Run, Ky. Leroy also enjoyed woodworking after he retired if he wasn't fishing.
He married Barbara O'Bryan Davis in 1981 and they shared 45 wonderful years together while raising 6 children. If you knew Leroy you knew his family was absolutely everything to him. His family was his anchor that kept him grounded and the driving force behind everything he did.
Before all that, he was an Eagle Scout, a Kentucky State Wrestling Champion at Ahrens Trade High School. Also Leroy was the first missionary from Kentucky to serve the LDS Church on a 2 year mission in the Southeast Indian Mission, Holbrook, Arizona 1963 - 1965. These three things said a lot about who he was: disciplined, competitive, and someone who finished what he started.
He is survived by his wife Barbara O'Bryan Davis, his children Penny Mechele Davis, Utah, Russell Lee Davis (Marlaine) Salem, Oregon, Curtis Ray Davis Louisville, Ky, Sean Michael Davis (Amy) Waddy, Ky Brian Patrick Davis (Bridget) Mount Washington, Ky, Wesley Scott Davis Louisville, Ky, his sisters Linda Davis Edstrom (Delbert) Rexburg, Idaho, June Carol Thomas Hamilton, Beaver Dam, Ky, 17 grandkids and 11 great grandkids.
In his later years, if he wasn't home, there was good chance he was at Nolin Lake with a line in the water. Fishing wasn't just a hobby. It was where he most found himself.
The family will host an open house Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 2 - what would have been Leroy's 84th birthday - from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 3501 College Drive, Louisville, Ky. Come celebrate his life, share a story, and raise one in his honor.
