Margaret Elizabeth “Libba” Kelmor passed after a long illness on Sept 1, 2023. She lived in Bowie, MD, with her wife, Kimberli Kelmor, and their rescued Border Terrier, Toph. Libba possessed multiple talents in artistic and creative endeavors and was also known for her compassion and caring. Her compassion led her to challenge practices that were unfair to others, while her sensitivity allowed her to do so without making anyone feel like they were being shamed. After working as a Graphic Designer and Writer for commercial advertising agencies in Baltimore, Louisville, and San Diego, Libba joined Better Kid Care (BKC) at Penn State University. BKC publishes online continuing education courses for people to maintain their childcare licensing.
She was very happy to be able to use her powers for good! Her creativity led to an ongoing participation in role-playing groups – particularly Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons. One group she joined while at Penn State over 11 years ago migrated to online when she moved to MD. Once introduced to Star Trek, she quickly became a true and loyal Trekker. She greatly enjoyed her impressive collection of Star Trek figures and ornaments. So much so that instead of being just for the holidays, it became a year-round display. Her creativity also came out in sewing – making many clothes, especially role-playing costumes for herself and others. She combined this with her professional skills to create a YouTube video titled Paraplegic Sewing, where she demonstrated how someone with paraplegia could still sew without needing to purchase a special replacement for the foot pedal. This video has been viewed over 1,500 times and still gets views 11 years after being uploaded. Her creativity also came out in drawing, painting miniatures for her role-playing characters, authoring fan fiction, and participating in collaborative writing clubs. She was always deeply involved as a friend, family member, and citizen of the world.
Libba is survived by her dedicated soulmate since 1993 and wife for 10 years, Kimberli Kelmor, Bowie, MD. Also, her parents, John “Jack” and Deborah Kelly, and sister Christina Hammons, Louisville, KY. She was incredibly proud of and loved both her nephew, Corey Hammons, and niece, Chloreesa Bradford.
A Celebration of Life event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 7, 2023, starting with visitation at 11:00 am, followed by the Celebration Service at 12 pm (noon). Guests are invited to gather for a light lunch following the service. Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Louisville, KY 40222.
