Oh what a man! It was a fateful Saturday when a driver from Erie Colorado gave me a number to call. His name was Mr. Troxell, I was 18 years old and absolutely loved racing. I helped a local team out and was told "what are you doing here, you need to go somewhere that can handle your talent!" I called Mr. Troxell scared to death and said "sir I hear you may give me a chance to help with your race team?" Mr. Troxell wasted no time and said son if you want a shot I'll give it to you, all you have to do is fly to Phoenix and I'll do the rest. "WHATTTTTTTT" I said, I mean I was 18 there was never going to be this chance again! I sold everything I could and flew to Phoenix! I was greeted by a man that looked like Gene Simmons lol.  I was thinking wow this guy owns a race team lol.  Mr. Troxell, then proceeded to tell me "lets go boy, I have laundry to do" as a young 18 year old I was kind of confused lol but went along. The first stop we made was to McDonald's he needed his coffee.  Over the next few days I learned that Mr. Troxell was everything I wanted to be, he treated me with respect that even my own father did not give me. As fate would have it after my first race with Mr. Troxell I ended up moving to Kentucky.  He employed me to help build houses and work with the race team. One of my favorite memories is working with him at his home. He gave me a weed eater with a saw blade on it and said "alright boy go cut all those bushes down, but be careful of the snakes." ( OH BOY MR. TROXELL I CAN'T WAIT LMAO) I will always be indebted to him, he taught me more then I'll ever remember and I can't thank him enough. I truly loved him! 

I always loved talking to lonnie he hired me to drive for him in the NASCAR series and I sure do miss him.

As his son, I was able to be a child with tons of fun. and the gocart he built for me when I was 5, turned into something we did regularly. We had so many hard fought battles on the track against each other.with most races starting 8 to 10 carts and us starting in the tail just to end up 1st and 2nd fighting it out for the win. all this against other friends and familiy on there carts who weren't  there to just fill the field. The competition was very fierce during 86 to 90 between all of us and we all loved racing the carts with my dad and we always welcomed any curious folks who stopped to see what all the noise was about. I knew there was something different about my pops when in 87 a Jeffersontown police officer was dispatched to the industrial park on the noise complaint of our racing that by that time was getting loaud .but before we knew it the officer was setting on one of my dad's carts, leaned over to get the instructions of what to do and expect from my dad, and making laps on the track in full uniform. Or going into marshals junkyard at the age of 6 and the men in the office correcting a fellow employee for cussing in front of
 "" Lonnies Boy"". as my dad was out In the yard gathering things he was after leaving me in the company of the ruff necks running the junkyard. Growing up with my dad as my friend was amazing even though being my friend wasnt on his list of priorities it was still the result ,and being treated like one of the guys always made me feel welcome and gave me countless life lessons, and shaped me into who I am .this made me years ahead compared to my age and it was common place for me at the ages of 12 and 15 to be guiding a grown man in the ways that things should be constructed to my dad's approval,and framing my first house at 19 ,and all this was accomplished because of his incredible ability to teach and get the best out of the person he was engaged with. He was truly a man's man and a mentor to many on construction methods and all

My father always looked forward to the next great event. That could be a race ,a trip, a goal reached by a friend ,
 He was always looking to celebrate the achievements of a friend or family no matter the magnitude of the accomplishment. 
     He ran a very efficient crew in all of his years of building houses. He was always adamant to count each step and movement to mabey save time and effort in the future keeping the saying work smart not hard .leading his crews by example he would work with incredible energy and speed matched with strength and talent he was just a beast on the j planning and networking with others involved in the project was top of the list of priorities for his plan of construction.  If you knew my dad you knew if his phone rang more than 3 times without a answer, he was fully engaged in work, but on that 5th or 6th ring ,you would get the,, "there you are" greeting he regularly used instead of the traditional hello. My dad wasn't into the past didn't seem to pay much attention to anniversaries or birthdays As he often told his friends that they only had one birthday after they explained they would be celebrating there birthday in a day or two .
 Marriage was another very cut and dry topic with my dad  with him explaining it as a business license and that the two married were in the business of marriage. Yet my dad was very much a fan of true love.. 
       My father loved music of all sorts and  if you ever worked with him you probably herd him bust out into a song carrying a good tone keeping spirits up with the crew and breaking the grind of the long work day he would put in. 
     His love for the lord  I think was  his biggest passion and in his early years he was always spreading the word with song,, reading scripture, and bible study on his job sites .He Always was more than fair with his decisions with folks even if they didnt do that to him or others. He very much walked with God and had a amazing relationship with his creator. . 
     

I raced the truck series with Lonnie. I remember many nights getting together and talked about racing and family. Our families were important to us both. We were like brothers. We shared the passion of racing . He will be dearly missed by all. Prayers for the family.

I grew up on Koger mnt was neighbors with Lonnie's family in TN...so sorry for your loss


My brother, Buddy, worked with Lonnie and that is how I met him. Always had a smile and a willing hand. Used to love racing the go carts with Lonnie and the crew over at Skyview Park parking lot.

Richard and I are so sorry to hear of Lonnie's passing. We have a boat on B dock at CQ marina and would speak with Lonnie frequently.   Very interesting life story and such a nice, sweet person.  Even when we did not stop to speak, he always gave us a thumbs up and a hello.   We will miss seeing Lonnie.   Thoughts and prayers to the family.     Annette Manias

Left to cherish Lonnie’s memory is his life partner and soulmate, Bonita “Bonnie” Morganett, his children, Sheri Rolls and Daniel Troxell, 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, and many loving family members.
