Lucille Schaaf Brooks was born September 24, 1922. In the years between that September day and when she left this world on February 10, 2018, Lucille was a soul overflowing with love, warmth and laughter.
Her family filled Lucille’s life and she filled theirs. She and her deceased husband, Irvin, loved their 68 years of marriage. She defined “mom” for children, Peggy (Steve) Mouser and Terry (Julia) Brooks. And Lucille relished in watching her seven grandchildren – Greg Brooks; Chris Brooks; Brian (Jenny) Brooks; Stephanie (Beau) Swincher; Amanda (Cory) Horsman; Kelly Mouser; and, Chelsea (AJ) Maier grow into adulthood. Lucille’s “icing on the family cake” came in the form of her twelve great-grandchildren.
Along with family, Lucille’s life resonated with professional commitment. Earning her undergraduate from Western and graduate degree from the University of Louisville, Lucille was an educator (and PTA President!) for some three decades in the Jefferson County Public Schools.
And as a person of faith, Lucille grew up at First Lutheran Church and then was an active member of Cooper Memorial United Methodist Church for more than six decades.
Lucille Brooks. A dessert chef maven. A bird watcher extraordinaire. A Bing Crosby groupie. A fervent fan of the Hilltoppers and Cardinals. One who loved her family and treasured the Lord.
Children animated Lucille’s life and soul. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, she would want you to celebrate her life with a gift to Kosair Charities (982 Eastern Parkway; P.O. Box 37370; Louisville, KY, 40233)
Visitation will be at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven (4400 Bardstown RD) on February 14, 2018, from 4PM-7PM. A celebration service will be held at the funeral home on February 15, 2018, at 12:00PM.
