Lucy Edna Rutherford Johns

Lucy “Edna” Johns, 95, entered into the arms of Jesus at Autumn Woods in New Albany, IN. She was two days shy of her 96th birthday. Mrs. Johns was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was an active member through the years at Okolona Baptist Church, Maple Grove Baptist Church and Hurstbourne Baptist Church. She was involved in PTA, Okolona Women’s Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Woods for the loving care and compassion provided Mrs. Johns.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Urias and Ann Jones Rutherford; husband, George Mentz Johns; grandchildren, Lisa Johns Gunderson and Rodney G. Johns; beloved son in law, Gene P. Jaggers and two sisters and six brothers.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Ida Pearl Christian; children, George W. Johns (Faye), Barbara A. Johns Jaggers, Leon S. Johns (Sheryle) and Clyde W. Johns; beloved grandmother of, Karen Jaggers Knop (Otto), Susan Jaggers Bufford (Randy), Leigh Ann Jaggers Ackermann (Jeff), Rebecca Johns O’Toole (Dan), Craig S. Johns (April), Richard W. Johns and Stephanie Johns Cannone (Jay); 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 12 NOON in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home at Westport Village. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Kosair Childrens Hospital or Hosparus of Indiana, 624 E. Market Street, New Albany 47150.
