Tish grew up in Louisville, Kentucky where she had fond early memories of roller skating in the basement with her beloved cousin Melody. She attended Mount Vernon High School in Ohio, where she met lifelong friend Diana Bauer. Tish reminisced fondly about flying to school sometimes in a tiny plane piloted by her big brother Stanley. There she became a member of the gymnastics team, which sparked a lifelong love of the sport.
At Newbold College in Bracknell, England, Tish (alongside her friend Diana) met friends from all over the world, including her future husband, Tihomir Jevtovic, from then Yugoslavia. Later they moved to Germany where she taught English and they had daughter Phoebe. After a few years, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio, had son Alexander, and Tish embarked on her nursing career. She worked in nursing homes, hospital ICUs, was an acute cardiac care nurse, and in later years, a Poison Control specialist. She was an R.N., and later got her B.S.N. from McKendree College. After ten years of marriage, she and Tihomir parted ways.
Tish loved languages and travel. Her many adventures included a school vacation in Paris complete with a visit to Notre Dame, skiing in Switzerland, and visiting Serbia to meet her husband’s family. Later she journeyed to Italy, where she survived five days with no luggage, but wasn’t deterred from swimming. In fact she would swim wherever she went, whether alongside manatees in Florida, in Olympic sized pools from Germany to California, or in the most modest of hotel pools. It was policy that she never left home without a bathing suit.
Also a musician, she loved to play piano and sing. Over the years, she supported many arts organizations: Louisville Bach Society, Kentucky Opera, Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Masterchorale, and Cleveland Ballet. She was also a volunteer for the kids at the Portland Community Center.
At work and in life, she was a person of immense faith, compassion and understanding who went above and beyond to bring people comfort and healing. In her final years, she constantly encountered nurses who would tell her how much her brilliant, kind mentorship shaped their approach to caregiving.
She is survived by her children Phoebe Jevtovic Rosquist and Alexander Jevtovic, her cousin (and spirit sister) Melody Eames Gray, son-in-law Nathan Rosquist, nieces Judy, Susan, Shelly, & Laura and nephews Tim & Jay.
The memorial service will be held on June 27 at 4pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church: 1206 Maple Ln., Anchorage, KY.
Tish loved flowers, but she also loved the Portland Community Center and would be happy with any other way you wish to remember her, especially if you go for a swim.
