Lydia Ann Aberli, of Louisville, Kentucky, died August 26, 2026, at Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living in Quincy, Illinois, at the age of 91. Born March 4, 1935, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, Lydia was the daughter of Frederick and Ruth Ruedeman.
From an early age, Lydia carried a clear sense of purpose. At just 12 years old, she decided that teaching was her calling—a conviction she pursued with steady dedication as she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Murray State University. She went on to teach elementary students in Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, and Illinois, shaping young lives through years of faithful service until her retirement in 1998.
Lydia’s life was also enriched by the quiet joys she cherished. She loved singing in the church choir, and she found comfort and creativity in sewing and quilting. She also had a special affection for her dachshunds, having owned 11 over 57 years—companions that brought her enduring delight.
In addition to her parents, Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hervey Paul Aberli, and her sister, Betty Ruth Smith.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Tonya) Aberli; and his children, Josiah and Roman; her brother, Rick (Sondra) Ruedeman; and several beloved nephews and nieces.
Funeral service will be 10am Friday, September 4, 2026, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218 with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 4-7pm Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven.
