Dr. Manuel B. Velarde 74 of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014. He was born January 9, 1940 in the Philippines. He was a retired physician specializing in surgery. He was the past president of the Filipino/American Society of KY & Southern Indiana, and past president of the Philippine Medical Association of KY and Southern IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lina D. Velarde, his 2 children; Mailynne V. and her husband, Christopher Jenkins and their children, Tyler, Xavier, and Trinity and Lynnie and his wife, Cheryl Velarde and their daughters, Brooklynn and Reagan . He is also survived by his brother, Augusto B. Velarde, and his wife, Dr. Margarita Velarde, and 2 sisters; Aida V. Betita, and Juliet Torres, and a host of extended family.
A Mass to celebrate Dr. Velarde’s life will be held at 9:30 am, Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 South Fifth street, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 3-8 pm at Arch L. Heady & Son Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road.
