Born to Ila Louise and William "Tip” Wilson in Harned County on August 15, 1939, Marda grew up making friends around Indiana and Louisville.
Marda was a graduate of Manual High School and the University of Louisville. She started her career at IBM before having her children. She returned to the workforce as a court transcriptionist before moving on to the University of Louisville College of Business, a place that ran in her blood. She served for 25 years as Executive Assistant to the Dean. Her retirement was a time of joy – filled with her family, friends, hobbies, her own cherished routines and just generally gadding about town.
She is survived by: her beloved children and their spouses – son, Lieutenant Colonel Greg Numann (Diane) of Chugiak, AK and daughter, Rachel Karem (Chris) of Louisville; the grandchildren that gave her such delight – Jenna, Alex and Emmy Numann; her lovingly satiric brothers, Hugh Wilson (Ann) and George Wilson (Betsy); her dear cat Bridget; and many treasured extended family members, neighbors and friends.
If there’s a heaven, we know you’re curled up in the wee hours of the morning, cat on your lap, poring over the paper with a coffee and, finally, a cigarette. Don’t mark up our punctuation mistakes too severely and feel free to clip this out. We will always love and miss you. Thank you for the roots and wings.
Arrangements by O.D. White & Sons. A remembrance of Marda's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 26 with private internment in Cave Hill at a later date. Visitation Thursday, October 25 from 3-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Bernheim Forest, Locust Grove or the University of Louisville College of Business.
