She was a retired sales clerk with the old Stewart Department Store. Mrs. Atherton enjoyed square dancing and traveling as well as the beach. She was a member of the Parkland Live Wires and a devoted member of St. Rita Catholic Church.
She was preceded in rest by her husband, Eugene Atherton.
Mrs. Atherton is survived by a son, Ed Atherton (Debby); a daughter, Julia A. Renders (Dick); two grandchildren, Kristin Clary (Keith) and Jennifer McGuire (Rich); and four great-grandchildren, Keifer and Kyle Clary; Patty and Liam McGuire.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 12 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 8519 Preston Highway, with entombment following in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visiting will be 5-8 p.m. on Thursday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Kentucky Humane Society.
