Kitt was born on July 12, 1925 in Hartford, CT to the late Joseph Benedict and Julia (Butler) Griffin. In 1946, Kitt was graduated from The College of New Rochelle. The year after graduation, Kitt married Richard Fay who served as a B-17 pilot in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Together they raised five children Richard, Sheila Hackett (Bruce), Joseph (Betsy), Matthew and Maura McIlvain (Brad). While lovingly tending her children, Kitt pursued graduate studies in early childhood development.
Kitt was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish for over twenty years before joining St. Patrick's Parish in 1985. She faithfully served as a Eucharistic minister in both parishes for many years. Kitt was also involved in numerous clubs and organizations over the years including the League of Women Voters, Welcome Wagon and Fifth Wheel Club. Additionally, she was an avid gardener as well as a long-time member, and past President, of the Crescent Hill Woman's Club. With her husband, Kitt enjoyed couple's gourmet cooking, bridge and volunteering at the Norton Children's Hospital gift shop. She was a voracious reader, usually of murder mysteries.
Kitt's husband of 66 years, Dick, died on September 3, 2013. She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren Jessica Walker (Tom), Brian Hackett (Lilliana), Emily Kirsch (Nick), Kathryn Aguire (Tony), Samantha Carpenter (Bryce), Julia Fay and Maura Fay, step-grandchildren Matthew McIlvain and Laura McIlvain, great grandchild Kayleigh Kirsch and step-great grandchild Sabra Walker. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by daughter-in-law Leona Mikolay.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in Kitt's name to St. Patrick School Foundation, Inc. for endowment. Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village is in charge of arrangements.
