Marian was a graduate of Anderson Junior College in Anderson, SC, and obtained her B.A. in Botany at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. She was very active in organizations through the years. In Athens, GA, her home for over 50 years, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the University of Georgia Women’s Club, the League of Women Voters, the Community Chest, and very active in the Girl Scouts of America along with many other organizations. When she moved to Louisville, KY, in 2007, she joined Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church and remained very active in groups there. She was also a member of the YMCA and the Beckham Bird Club.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth VanEseltine (Barb); daughter, Karen Rabek; grandchildren, Carolyn VanEseltine (Danielle), Matt VanEseltine (Brooke), Brian Rabek, and Cheryl Jennings (John); great-grandson, Tristan; brothers, Emmet and Allen Vanderburgh; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in passing was her husband of 60 years, William VanEseltine and her son-in-law Richard Rabek.
A service to celebrate Marian’s life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 28, at Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church. For her friends and family in Athens we will have a service at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens on Saturday, May 19th at 11 AM.
