

She was born February 8, 1921, in Chicago, IL to the late Helen F. Manning and Roy H. Manning. She graduated from the Chicago Conservatory of Music.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Edward S. Kulis, and her grandchildren, Mallory Jo Kulis and Edward Mitchell Kulis.
Martha is survived by her son, Edward "Murphy" Kulis, daughter- in - law Jean Kempf Kulis, and her "namesake" granddaughter, Manning H. Kulis.
Martha Jane was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Robert E. Newman-Auxiliary 3636), a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Inc, and past member of the Starlite Chapter NO 1 O.E.S located at Oak Lawn, IL. The family would like to extend their appreciation to The Altenheim Staff for the exceptional and compassionate care Martha Jane received while she was a resident. Also, to the Hosparus of Louisville staff who were extremely involved, thoughtful, and professional, and made Martha Jane's journey into eternity very peaceful. Finally two special individuals whose undying devotion and generosity cannot be put into words, and who made sure Martha Jane's life was bigger and brighter on a daily basis -- Mike Lay "adopted son" and Mary Ann Bond.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Martha will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Hwy. Visitation will be held Sunday from 12-2pm at the funeral home. A private entombment to follow on Monday. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
