Martha's journey was a shared adventure with her beloved husband Howard C. Phillips, who predeceased her after 61 years of marriage. She was the cherished daughter of Charles and Ersie Conway. Martha's legacy of love continues through her children: Trish Greenwell (Kevin), Kathy Phillips, Bonnie Caplinger (Dave), Howard Phillips (Karla), Karen Phillips, and Donald Phillips (Pat), her 5 grandkids, 11 great grandkids, and her cat 'Boots'
Martha served as a Nurses Aide for 34 years at Highland Baptist and Baptist East Hospitals. She was more than a caregiver, she was a ray of sunshine to her patients and co-workers.
Martha was a die-hard University of Kentucky sports fan, and her cheers could be heard for blocks. As the unofficial family cheerleader, she led with the enthusiasm of a head coach during March Madness.
Martha had the nicest yard in the neighborhood and it would be transformed into a magical winter wonderland during the holiday season.
Loving, creative, and kind are words that barely scratch the surface of who she was. Her smile was infectious, her heart was inviting, and her kindness was a language she spoke fluently. She will always be remembered as 'the most selfless woman on earth.'
Martha lived a life that was as colorful as her garden and as sweet as her tea. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5th, from 11am-12:30pm at Arch L. Heady Westport Village 7410 Westport Rd. Louisville, KY 40222, with a service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
