Mary Catherine (Lanning) Howerton Morris

Mary worked at Spalding Laundry and Jewish Hospital but her most important job was a mother and she was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She raised 6 beautiful, smart, independent and confident women; and taught us love, forgiveness, perseverance, inner strength and to care for one another. Mary loved God and her church family at West End General Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Catherine Lanning; her spouses, Donald Howerton and Troy Morris; her brothers, Fred, Nicholas and James Lanning; and her sister, Joyce Talley.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her 6 daughters, Donna (Richard) Schultz, Denise (Thomas) Howerton, Diana (Perry) Howerton, Debra (Kenny) Mercer, Dorothy (Lewis) Goins and Diellen (Gary) Timberlake; 2 sisters, Barbara (James) McCrady and Rose (Thomas) Cunningham; brother, George (Linda) Lanning; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the Evergreen Dignity Chapel. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service also at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mary’s memory be made to West End General Baptist Church, 1628 Portland Ave., Louisville, Kentucky 40203.
