Mary LaLanie Motley

Born on August 9, 1937, in Louisville, Ky to Emily (Mumford) Harlan and Robert Harlan, Mary— affectionately known as MaryLee—was a woman of strength and determination. She settled in the Okolona neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, where she raised her four sons and built a life rooted in hard work, community, and deep devotion to family.

A self-made businesswoman, MaryLee owned and operated two convenience stores, one of which was located in the heart of downtown Louisville. She was widely respected for her tireless work ethic, and sharp business sense.

When she wasn’t working, MaryLee could be found cheering on her sons and later in life, her grandchildren at their ballgames, enjoying a spirited game of bingo, or chasing a dream that few would have dared—earning her private pilot license, a testament to her adventurous spirit and determination to live life to the fullest.

MaryLee was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Gertie and Connie and her oldest son, Robert Gary.

She is survived by her sons Jeff (Tammie), Mick (Tammy), and Joe (Lisa); her grandchildren Jennifer Gigliotti (Doug), Max (Rachel), Heather Faulkner (Adam), Brittany DeTalente (Danny), Mitchell (Abby), Austin (Suzanne Asbury), Mason (Stacy Vadakkan), Savannah, McKenna, and Matthew Motley (Bryce Miller); and her great-grandchildren: Lukas, Whitney, Hayden, Nolan, Madelyn, Lincoln, Roman and Kennedy. She also leaves a behind a sister, Rose and several nieces and nephews.

MaryLee will be remembered for her strength and her love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the lives she touched.
