Mary Elizabeth Offutt Nugent, age 99, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary grew up in Louisville as a devoted parishioner of Saint Joseph’s Church, where her faith and sense of community shaped her lifelong commitment to serving others. Her strong beliefs and gentle spirit guided her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Charles William Nugent II, and her oldest son, Charles William Nugent III. She is survived by her three sons, David E. Nugent, Stephen T. Nugent (Lisa), and Richard A. Nugent.
Mary began her career working as a telephone operator for BellSouth before leaving the workforce to devote herself fully to her family. As a lifelong homemaker, she tended to her home and family with unwavering devotion. She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures and cherished time spent with those she loved most. Mary remained active in her church community throughout her life, generously giving of her time and heart in service to others.
She was a proud grandmother to Marcia Littlefield, Chuck Nugent, Stephanie Nugent, Christopher Nugent, and Shelly Blevins, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She also lovingly cared for her great-niece and great-nephew, Rebekah and William Boegle, who held a very special place in her heart.
Mary was one of ten siblings. She was preceded in death by her brothers Charles, Paul, Louis, Joseph, James, and John. She is survived by her brother and sisters Jerry, Patricia, and Betty Lou.
Mary’s life was a testament to devotion to family, faith, and service. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, warm hospitality, ready smile, and steadfast love for those around her.
A visitation will be held from 12pm - 2pm with a funeral service to follow at 3pm on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40218. Entombment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Joseph’s Church.
