March 12, 1950 – July 4, 2024
Our hearts are heavy as we honor the life of our beloved father, Michael Glen Haycraft, who passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 74 in his home in Corbin, KY. Born on March 12, 1950, in Louisville, KY, Dad was not only our hero but also an incredible grandfather and great-grandfather. His legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
Dad’s life was a testament to hard work and passion. After graduating from Ahrens Trade High School, he began his career at 18 as an apprentice at L&N in Louisville Shops. Over the years, he mastered his craft as a Master Electrician and Safety Supervisor, creating educational platforms and instructing dozens of fellow electricians. His commitment to sharing knowledge and fostering growth in others became a hallmark of his career. Dad eventually retired from CSX Transportation after an impressive 50-year journey of excellence and service.
Beyond his work, Dad lived life with enthusiasm and purpose. He was a proud NRA instructor and an active member of the Corbin and Jefferson County Sportsman Clubs, where he shared his love for the outdoors and marksmanship with others.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth (Smith) Haycraft; his siblings, Bill Haycraft, Shirley Fraze, and Jerry Haycraft; and our mother and his ex-wife, Ruth Young (Haycraft) (Eldridge).
He leaves behind a family who cherished him deeply: his daughters, Michelle Davidson (Chris) and Shari McPeek (Chris); his grandchildren, Michael "Cliff" Haycraft (Danielle), Tyler Davidson, Gavin Davidson, and CJ Davidson; and his great-grandchildren, Peytyn Crider-Davidson and Leonel Haycraft and beloved dog Shari. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends who mourn his passing and celebrate his incredible life.
To honor both Dad and our mother, Ruth, we will hold a dual celebration of life at Rest Haven Funeral Home on January 24, 2025. This gathering will be a reflection of the love and memories they created for all of us. A private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Knox-Whitley Humane Society or River Valley Crawford County Humane Society, organizations close to Dad's heart.
Dad, you taught us the value of hard work, the joy of the outdoors, and the importance of family. Your love, guidance, and strength will remain in our hearts forever. We love you and will miss you every day.
