Michael David Hernandez Sr., 72, passed away December 2, 2021. Michael was a loving husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. Michael leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Suzanna Hernandez. The two met as young children and later became high school sweethearts. They married on December 9, 1967. Michael was an athlete for Fern Creek High School and graduated in 1968. He worked at a gas station in Buechel and at the age of 16, joined the Buechel Fire Department. He then went on to work for Louisville Lumber and Mill Work as a truck driver for 28 years and Hood Lumber Company as a supervisor for nearly 20 years. Michael was still a hardworking man and was currently employed at Lowe’s in the flooring department.
For 23 years, Michael was involved with the Scouts. He was a Scout Leader for Troop 108 and helped with the Girl Scouts. He also helped with Buechel Presbyterian Church.
Along with his wife Suzanna, Michael is survived by his children Juanita Schick (Steve), Michael Hernandez Jr. (William), Maria Marlin (Todd), Vanessa Cumberland and Jonathan Hernandez (Grace), father Marcelino Hernandez, siblings Marquita McAllister and Gerald Hernandez, grandchildren Stephen Jr., Crystal, Sara, Joann, Rachel, Nathan, Rebecca, Grace, Lydia, Michael, Brittany, John, Chris, and Victoria, great grandchildren Issac, Naomi, Ezra, Hannah, Ricardo, Olivia, Elisha, Daniel, Sahara and Izzy and dear puppy Juliet.
A service to honor the life of Michael will be held Thursday, December 9th at 2pm in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home with a private entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will begin Thursday at 11am until the start of the funeral.
