

Michael Anthony Schardein Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, in his hometown of Louisville, KY, at the age of 84. Michael was born on October 1, 1939, to William and Catherine Schardein at their home on Sylvia Street in Germantown.
Michael was the middle of six children losing his older brother to the Korean war. He attended St. Elizabeth Elementary Catholic school and later attended St. Xavier High School. While at St. X he played guard on the 1956 Championship football team. On October 8, 2001 he was inducted into the St.X Athletic Hall of Fame. Michael later turned his love of football to coaching. He coached at St.Elizabeth, Resurrection, Holy Name, and St. Rita for 25 years and known to all as Coach Mike.
Michael married his wife of 61 years, Patricia, on April 27th, 1963 at St. Columba Catholic Church. They went on to have Angela, Michael Jr. (Rebecca) and Julie (Donn Lockhart). He supported his family with his fulfilling career as an electrician for 64 years as a member of IBEW Local 369. After retiring in the year 2000 Michael dedicated his time to his greatest joy—his family. He was a loving PawPaw to his grandchildren, Matthew, Katelynn, Malerie, and Andrew, who will forever cherish the memories and lessons he imparted.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine, and his brothers, Billy and Eddie Schardein. He leaves behind his surviving siblings, Jean Reid (Joseph), Eric Schardein (Cheryl), and Rex Schardein (MaryLu), who will continue to honor his memory.
His life was a testament to the power of family, the joy of giving, and the impact one person can have on many. Michael Anthony Schardein Sr. will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will live on through the lives he touched.
A visitation for Michael will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven.
