Born on July 15, 1939, in Revelo, Kentucky, Nina was the daughter of Thurman and Exie Chinn. She grew up in Williamsburg, Kentucky and was a childhood member of Main Street Baptist Church. Throughout her life, Nina was known for her deep love of family, her generous spirit, and her gift for making everyone feel welcome.
Nina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Conrad Amenta, with whom she shared a life filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories. Together they lived in Southington, Connecticut for 18 years before making their home in Louisville, Kentucky. They especially enjoyed traveling, with favorite destinations including Palm Springs, California, and return trips to Connecticut to visit family and dear friends. Nina was also a proud member of the Italian-American Club in Louisville, where she and Conrad enjoyed spending time with friends and celebrating their shared community.
Nina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Conrad Amenta; her parents, Thurman and Exie Chinn; her sisters, Lois Delyanis, Geneva Crawford, and Wanda Ping; and her brothers, Duel Chinn and Harold Chinn.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Cassel (Steve); her son, Richard D. Hardy (Aida); her grandchildren, Nina Elizabeth Thompson (Tim), Lauren Abrams (Travis), David Hardy, Jr. (Shelly), and Alex Hardy; her great-grandchildren, Samuel Thompson, Nora Hardy, and Austin Hardy; and her brother, Richard Chinn (Shirley). She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
Nina found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved cooking, gardening, and reading, but nothing brought her greater happiness than preparing homemade meals for the people she loved. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome around her table, where family and friends gathered to enjoy not only her wonderful cooking but also her warmth, generosity, and laughter. Her garden was her sanctuary, and she delighted in tending her beautiful flowers, finding peace and contentment among their blooms.
Those who knew Nina will remember her for her gracious hospitality, her extraordinary talent in the kitchen, and the love she poured into every meal she prepared. She found her greatest fulfillment in caring for others, creating a home where everyone felt welcomed, loved, and well-fed. Her kindness and unwavering devotion to her family will remain a lasting legacy.
The family will have a graveside service at a later date.
Nina's love lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
