She was preceded in death by her husband Willard Ira Chasteen, and her parents. Nora loved sharing stories about her life and the lessons life taught her with others.
Her experience as an orphan had a profound effect on the woman she became. She would often speak of her experience on the orphan train. She remembered being taken from house to house to see if a family wanted to adopt her. She remembered asking her adopted father if he could keep her. Her adopted family provided her with a loving home and opportunities. She would recall how other children were not so lucky and were used for farm labor or as a maid. She watched the world change dramatically in her 99 years. She was born in 1926. That year the first transatlantic telephone call was made from New York to London, Henry Ford announced his revolutionary eight hour work day and five day work week for his employees and the first liquid fueled rocket was launched. Nora met Willard and fell deeply in love, she was by his side until death separated them in 2018 after 59 years together. She prided herself on being a homemaker and “keeping a clean house.” She was a gracious and eloquent lady.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews.
