Born on December 29, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky, the Daughter to Edwin H. Bailey and Norma Berry Bailey. She graduated from Manual High School in 1954. She met the love of her life in a chance occurrence at her grandparents country store (The Little White Tavern/ Berry’s Country Store) as Gene Brown Tandy asked her to a movie in Madison, and the patrons & family were asked if he was trustworthy. Norma and Gene Brown were married on June 19, 1954 at Ninth and O Baptist Church.
Norma Jeanne, also known as “Mimi”, was known for her kindness, strength, and devotion to her family and friends. She was “Mom” or “Mimi” to all the kids in the neighborhood, who lived being around her house. Norma Jeanne never met a stranger and has lifelong friends she adored. As the family genealogy expert, there is no question she couldn’t answer amongst the family tree, we are lucky to have her knowledge and recollection after all these years. As an only child, she cared for many elder family members on both sides of the family, truly a great blessing to all. In her early years, she worked for numerous attorneys and the banking industry. She worked at the Probation & Parole Office then became a secretary at KY Department of Corrections before her retirement. She was a member of Beargrass Christian Church.
She is survived by her children, Steven Edwin Tandy (Karen), Bruce Lee Tandy, Cyndy Tandy Cushman (Larry), and her two granddaughters, Stephanie Harvey and Ellie Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Brown Tandy.
Visitations for Norma Jeanne Tandy will be held from 4–7pm on Friday, November 14 and 10am–12pm on Saturday, November 15 at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home.
