Born on April 2, 1948, Pat was the daughter of the late George Reardon and Dorothy Perkins, and the oldest of what would eventually be four siblings. At an early age, she was inspired by her grandmother, Georgia Reardon—a lifelong, devoted educator—to follow her own dream of entering the classroom. Pat went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Spalding College in 1970, followed by her Master’s in Special Education from the University of Louisville in 1974, proudly graduating as part of the university's very first class to receive that degree.
Pat was a mother, an educator, and a woman truly ahead of her time. She dedicated her life to bringing the gift of reading and learning to every student she touched, teaching across primary, middle, and high school levels within the Jefferson County Public Schools, as well as tutoring privately. Among her many positions, she was a beloved teacher at Atherton High School. Her excellence and devotion earned her the distinct honor of Kentucky Teacher of the Year. Throughout her life, former students would frequently run into her, eager and excited to share how her guidance had shaped their adult lives and achievements. Pat’s passion extended beyond the classroom as an active member of JCTA and KTA, where she worked to help design Kentucky state legislation to improve and fund programs for children with special needs.
In the 1980s, Pat became ill with severe mental illness, bringing a profound loss to her family. Decades later, her beloved son, John Patrick, would also succumb to the family illness, losing his battle in 2011. In the years leading up to his passing, Pat and John spent most of their time together attending Mass services throughout Louisville. Though her chronic illness spanned more than half of her life and brought many difficulties, there was still immense joy to celebrate because of the fierce love shared between Pat, John, Dortha, and Cam. Christmases were beautifully shared between John, Pat, Cam, Al, and longtime family friend, Beth Kvinta.
Singing brought Patricia her greatest joy. Over the years, she and her daughter shared countless musical moments together, singing her favorite songs, including “Wouldn’t it be Loverly” from My Fair Lady. She is reunited now with her son, John, in the fields of wildflowers they both so deeply loved.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter, Dortha Hagan (Christine); the father of her children, Cam Hagan; and her cherished grandchildren, Alexi Fazio, Chance Fazio, and Conner Fazio. She also leaves behind her loving siblings: Mike Reardon, David Abell (Susan), and Lisa Abell Altieri (Gerry).
The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the Lee, Fazio, Kvinta, Totten, Fitzgerald, Romero, Hennessy, Ramos, and Kiely families, as well as the many others we cannot name individually. Thank you for nurturing the unconditional love that Pat so strongly believed in, and for reminding us all that even in the smallest ways, we can move the world toward peace.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218. She will be laid to rest privately at Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Pat’s honor to Wellspring Kentucky to support mental health resources and housing: https://wellspringky.org/how-you-can-help/donate-page/
