Patricia Marie Kralik (Mrs. Paul N. Epstein), 74, of Riverwood in Louisville, KY, passed away the evening of June 2, 2018. She was born January 12, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Martin and Marie Kralik.
Patricia graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1962, obtained a BS in biology from the University of Houston in 1966 and an MS in neurochemistry in 1971 from The University of Texas at Houston, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Patricia obtained fulfilment from her work in biomedical research, trying to improve treatment of disease in humans and animals. Patricia wanted to continue with research as long as she could, only completely stopping a few weeks before her death. She co-authored a total of 36 scientific articles and she provided detailed guidance in scientific methods to many young scientists.
In 1979 Patricia married Paul N. Epstein in Houston, Texas, while he was completing his doctoral training. Eleven years later they moved to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, where they both worked. In 2000 they settled in at the University of Louisville. Pat and Paul both loved nature, either vacationing in National Parks or watching birds and squirrels in their backyard. Pat kept a special cup so she could capture bugs in the house and put them outside, unharmed. Over 38 years of marriage much of their attention went to 7 sweet, spoiled, rescue dogs (Lady, Arnie, Dottie, Chauncey, Opie, Sam and Rose). Patricia is survived by her husband Paul, sister Jennette Kralik, brother Martin Kralik and 18 dearly loved nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
A life celebration memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 5:30 pm at Paul and Pat's home, 2013 Camargo Rd., Louisville, KY 40207. If sending flowers please have them delivered to our home.
