As an infant, Perry suffered a vaccine injury, leaving him mentally handicapped and causing him to develop a seizure disorder. While Perry wasn’t able to attend traditional school or hold a job, he did not let that hold him back. He will be remembered by his family and friends for being incredibly smart, thoughtful and funny.
Perry spent most of his life living with his parents, Joe and Clara Ann, who provided incredible care for him. Upon the death of his mother in 2020, Perry moved to Nazareth Home where he quickly formed deep friendships with many residents and staff members. He enjoyed almost-daily visits from his sister Wilma Jo and became known on the second floor for his love of bingo and old TV shows like “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Waltons.”
Perry’s greatest joy in life was being an uncle to Mary Claire and Julia. He looked forward to their visits, letters and phone calls. He was especially proud of their newborn sons and was looking forward to meeting his two great nephews.
Perry is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Clara Ann McCaslin and brother-in-law Robert H. Couch. He is survived by his sister Wilma Couch, nieces Mary Claire (Peter) Barnes of Raleigh, North Carolina and Julia (Hayden) Copeland of Nashville, Tennessee, great-nephews Robert Glenn Barnes and John Perry Copeland and a host of cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2000 Douglass Boulevard, with a memorial immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions can be sent to Nazareth Homes Foundation, 2000 Newburg Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40205
