He was born in the small town of Corona, Kansas on October 2, 1928 to his Italian immigrant parents Pete Paul Sr. and Margaret Castagno. He was the youngest of three children with two older sisters, Marina and Pauline. He attended Kansas State and completed his degree in Chemistry from Pittsburg State. He passed the EIT for Engineering and had a career as a Chemical Engineer. His career path lead him all over the country, ultimately to Louisville, where he lived more than half his life. He married Rosalie Machetta on October 23, 1954. He was a member of Our Mother of Good Counsel and St. Albert the Great Catholic Churches. He was a proud USAF veteran of the Korean War. He was especially proud of his Italian heritage and was a lifetime member serving on the board of the Louisville Chapter of the Italian-American Club and made several trips with his family to Italy. He spent his leisure time playing and winning at cribbage and pinochle. He was an avid fan of UK and U of L and loved to watch the Cincinnati Reds play even when they weren’t winning. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. We will miss him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Rosalie Castagno. He is survived by his sons, Tim, Phil (Sherry), Larry (Patti) and Bob (Carolyn); seven grandchildren, Andrea (Justin), Megan, Allison (Brad), Robert, Catelyn, Anna and Jack; and three great grandchildren, Hunter, Brooks and Levi.
