Phyllis D. Dewitt, 68, passed away peacefully in her home on February 9th, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggles and ultimately gave her peace.
Phyllis was born to the late John Harvey and Levenia Winters in Louisville, Ky on February 11th, 1948. Phyllis was blessed with a large and loving family. She is survived by her sister Bettie Bernhart; her sons Joseph Satterley (Juliana) and Keith Satterley (Marcia); her daughter Sandra Rudolph; her grandchildren Joey, Bianca and Julia Geraldi-Satterley, Jackson Stillwell, Evonne Rudolph, Lena Rudolph, Lauren Satterley, Aiyana Rudolph, Tyler Satterley, Matthew Dillander, Samuel Rudolph, Zakk Satterley, Sarah Rudolph, Tabitha Sprigler, Josh and Janelle Rudolph; her Great-Grandchildren Vincent Sprigler, Aleeyah Satterley, Arlie Satterley, and Kenzie Dillander; and her nieces Cindy Baker, Dee-dee Kaelin, Annie Haynes, Tami Bowlin, Angela Winters and Christy Muscar; her nephews Charles Mefford and Randy Bernhart. Her loved ones that passed before her include her siblings Mary Moreno, John H. Winters Jr., Anna Mefford, Patricia Satterley, Billy-Joe Winters; and her grandson Matthew Satterley.
Phyllis retired from the accounting department of Jefferson County Public Schools. In her free time she enjoyed crafts such as crocheting, painting, remodeling, and piddlin’ at the kitchen table. Phyllis spent most of her time with her family and friends as she held gatherings in her home for all to attend. She is remembered by her grandchildren for her ability to plan an activity in a matter of minutes. Phyllis was good with numbers and was always ready to tackle a puzzle. She enjoyed midnight runs, early sunrise viewings, trips around the world and long conversations over breakfast and coffee. While she spent her years in her home in Fairdale, KY she was still adventurous and willing to try anything. Her young, free spirit allowed her the ability to get covered in mud and out work every man in the neighborhood and then end her evening sewing dresses with her best friend, Barbara Underwood. Phyllis had the unique ability to bond with anyone she met. She had a charming sense of humor that stayed with her even in her final days. Phyllis was loved by everyone she met. She will be remembered for her big heart and love for all people.
In her time of illness she was cared for by her beloved caregiver and friend Amelia Burnett. Her husband Rafael and children Wyatt, Alex and Brandon were considered family as well.
Her caregivers Donna, Dana, and Rhonda provided love and comfort to her as she was cared for in her home.
Phyllis will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, February 18th. Visitation will be from 10 am – 12 pm with a service and burial to follow. Services will be held by Pastor James Strocen. Pastor Strocen took the time to visit Phyllis weekly to have bible study in her final days as she was no longer able to attend service. In her memory, donations can be made to Trinity Baptist Temple, 7625 Third Street Road, Louisville, KY 40214. Donations can also be made to Hosparus of Louisville as they supported her in her final days.
