R. Jeanette Wolfe

She graduated from Loyall High School in 1952, and every Labor Day returned for her annual reunion as long as she could. She was a member of South Louisville Christian Church.

She belonged to Eastern Star and was president of her professional sorority, Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She was honored by Mayor Robert Cherry who presented her the "Duchess of Paducah" Award. She maintained sister friendships through the years.

She began her career as stenographer at Clayton and Lambert. She entered government work for the Map Service as secretary and remained in government service for thirty years. At her retirement from service, she was traveling as an assistant to judges. A fascinating position which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Beloved by her sisters, Louise and Glenda, whom she enjoyed spending time with going out to dinner, watching her grand nieces' and nephews' games and especially musicals and old movies.

Jeanette was well known for her love of her pets. They were children to her, and she treated them with great concern. Cats or dogs, didn't matter which. She loved them equally.

In her younger years she enjoyed social dancing and was quite good at skate dancing, which was popular at that time. Jeanette was very musically inclined. From her childhood years studying piano she developed a love of all musical movies and theater which followed her through her life. She belonged to a wonderful Christian choral group which practiced weekly with a dinner first (her dish of baked pineapple was always a hit), then off to perform for nursing homes, rehabs, hospitals, etc.

Her first love was her great nieces and nephews. Though she lived away as they grew up, she stayed in contact remembering birthdays and milestones in their lives. She never forgot to send cards for every occasion especially if she couldn't be there in person.

She had a great heart for the less fortunate especially children without families. Every year she and her former husband (James Pruitt) would drive to Eastern Kentucky and pick up a child from an orphanage to bring home for the holidays to celebrate Christmas.

Jeanette was a big believer in personal enrichment and was always enrolled in a class somewhere. Be it Bible study or geometry, her desk always had books and papers she was working on. Her dearest wish was to earn a bachelor’s degree eventually and she almost did!

Jeanette is survived by her sister, Glenda Ryan (Mike), nephew, Michael Ryan (Sharon), nieces, Carrie McGraw (Marcus) and Julie Harp (Chad), and six grandnieces and two grandnephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 am at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218). She will be laid to rest privately at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Family and friends are welcome to a reception lunch concluding the service.
