Rachel Brown Bennett Warren

Rachel Brown Bennett Warren 102, passed away Friday October 12, 2012 at Golden Living Louisville, St. Matthews. She was the daughter of the late Walter F. and Josie Oglesby Bennett of Crescent Hill-St. Matthews. She was born July 22, 1910 in Oldham Co., LaGrange, KY. She was Valedictorian of her graduating High School Class, a graduate of Clark College of Commerce and attended the University of Louisville. She was retired as a administrative assistant to the Vice President and General Manager of General Electric Park in Louisville. She was the oldest living member at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, having served in several leadership roles; Sunday School Superintendent, committee chairs, and secretary for over 20 years for the Deacon Council, and later becoming Life Deacon. She was also a member of the Professional secretary International, and was past President of the Crescent Hill Woman's Club. She volunteered at the Kosair Children's Hospital gift shop. One of her greatest joys was the art of teaching iron lung patients to type with their tongue. She also volunteered for several years with United Crescent Hill Ministries, where she and her late husband Joseph D. Warren, provided meals on meals to shut in's. Her hobbies were fashion designing, flower gardening, and bridge. She was also preceded in death by her sister; Elizabeth Bennett, and brothers; W. Miller Bennett, and Wilson O. Bennett, and her step-son, Bobby Warren. She is survived by her loving sister; Kathrene Bennett, her niece; Joann Bennett Sprouse of Empire, MI, her nephews; William F. Bennett of Paradise Valley, AZ, and Thomas G. Bennett of Phoenix, AZ. Her step-daughter; Kay Keeling (Kenneth), and step-daughter in law; Donna Warren, and their children. A service to celebrate Rachel's life will be held 1:30 Wednesday, in the Chapel of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Avenue, with interment at Valley of Rest, in LaGrange, Ky. Visitation will be held 3-6 Tuesday at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Avenue. Her body will lie in state at church from Noon on Wednesday. Expressions of sympathy are requested to Memorial Fund of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.
